Germination; Sow indoors. 6-8 weeks before setting out after last frost. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost, press seeds into soil but do not cover. Ideal temp. 18-21°C. Germination takes 5-21 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle to 8cm pots. Acclimatise and plant out after danger of frost has passed with 25cm spacing. Can be sown directly from April into well prepared soil that has been raked to a fine tilth.

Growing; This is a short-lived perennial, often grown as an annual. Pinch out growing tips and first set of leaves in May to create a bushier plant.

Cultivation; Deadhead or cut flowers to extend flowering window. Cut plant to ground level after first frosts. Divide every 3-4 years to maintain plant vigour. Divide as soon a growth begins in spring.
