RMRDRDBA–. Studies on the vegetation of the Transcaspian lowlands. Botany. — 236 — In a young stem the pith is a water-storing tissue. Tlie primary cortex includes bundles of bast at regular intervals. Outside is the green outer cortex with its cells slightly palisade-like. Zygophyllum Fabago and miniatiim both have broader leaves and shorter branches than Z. Eichivaldii. The leaves of Peganiim Harmala are repeatedly furcate with linear segments. The branches lie prostrate on the ground like those of Zygophyllum. It flowers in spring and the shoots wither during the summer, (comp. Volkens p. m.). Fig.
