Toppen van de onderste kroonkafjes met rechte naalden (fig. 428), die veel korter zijn dan de middelste. Plant 4,5-9 dM hoog. Pluim naar eene zijde ge- keerd, samengetrokken of uitgespreid, boven trosvormig. Kelkkafjes (fig. 428) 7-9-nervig, omstreeks even lang als de bloemen. Onderste kroonkafje meest boven naar voren ruw, zeldzamer kaal, aan beide bloemen genaaid, ten slotte grijs tot zwartgrijs of bruinachtig, zelden wit (fig. 428) A. strigosa-) Schreb.
