The water lilly belongs to the 'nymphaeaceae' family of flowering plants. Many members of this family are commonly called water lilies. They live in freshwater areas in temperate, sub-tropical and tropical climates around the world. The family contains eight genera with about about 70 species of water lilies the world over with over 30 species alone across the northern hemisphere. Clours range from white, yellow, saffron, orange, deep-red, pink and even pale blue and violet.
