Kalmia angustifolia L. 'Rubra' (Ericaceae) Lambkill, Sheep Laurel, Pig Laurel Native of Labrador, Manitoba and Newfoundland south to Virginia and Georgia in the mountains, growing in acid bogs, heaths, open woods, and pine barrens, flowering from late May to August (in the north). Small lax evergreen shrub to 1 m. Leaves oblong to elliptic-lanceolate, to 5 cm long. Flowers to 13 mm across, usually deep pink or crimson, rarely white. Moist, acid soil; sun or part shade. Hardy to -30°C. 'Rubra' is a deep pink form, frequent in cultivation. Summer. Z2.
