The Pineapple Plant (Ananas comosus) is native to Brazil, like all the other Bromeliads. It produces a rosette of leaves, in which grow a flower and its fruit. The flower itself will last for months before drying up, making it a fascinating ornamental plant to observe wherever you set it.

Its growth is quite unique since its rosettes die while producing seeds, but not before having developed well-rooted offshoots. When they are mature enough, you can plant them in fibrous substrate.

MAINTENANCE

The Pineapple Plant requires very good indirect light or even direct sun. It appreciates being given a drink when its soil dries up at two-thirds of the pot. Unlike certain other types of Bromeliads, do not pour water inside the rosette for it could rot.

When you take possession of your plant, make sure you assess its watering needs. Before you give it a drink the first time, check the soil’s moisture level to verify whether or not it is moist near the surface. It is best to aerate the soil before the initial watering since it is often compacted to avoid shifting during transit. This also allows it to breathe and release moisture.

Rotate your plant periodically in order to encourage an even growth. Cleaning the leaves regularly will stimulate proper photosynthesis. As you wipe the foliage, inspect the leaves on either side to make sure there are no pests.
