Stemodia lanata (syn. S. tomentosa) - Wooly stemodia

About twenty-three species of Stemodia are native to warm regions of North and South America. Wooly stemodia is native to southern Texas and northern Mexico. It grows to only a few inches tall and serves well as a groundcover in dry gardens. As long as the soil is well-drained, it seems to tolerate Florida's rain and humidity. The foliage is fine-textured and silvery-gray. Tiny lavender flowers appear throughout the growing season.

This plant is cold hardy in northeast Florida. It requires a well-drained soil and thrives in dry, sunny sites.
