Commonly known as the Dwala Aloe, this succulent is grown for its interesting foliage and flowers. It grows as an open rosette with fleshy, green-grey leaves that are often flushed with red or pink. Tall stems rise above the foliage in winter to bear clusters of red flowers. The display is outstanding. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, preferring a well-drained soil and a full sun position. It is tolerant of coastal environments, extended dry periods, and moderate frost once established. Dwala Aloe is commonly grown as a specimen, used in coastal and Mediterranean themed gardens, added to mixed plantings, maintained in a container, or planted in the drier areas of a garden. It is great for providing winter interest.
