Ribbon Bush (Hypoestes aristata)
Also called Purple Haze,
Ribbon Bush is a fabulous fall
bloomer that’s engulfed in clusters of
pinkish-purple flowers from fall into
early winter. The showy flowers stand
out against the dark green, ovate
leaves and blooms appear on the
terminal ends and leaf nodes along
the stems. The shortening daylength
of late summer initiates the flowers
that arrive in fall. After flowering, plants
can be pruned back to maintain a
nice shape with a final pruning in
mid-June so the new growth can form
buds in the fall. It prefers a sunny
location with moderate fertilizer to perform at its best.
