Commonly known as "black plum", it is known for many local names, such as: oum dougoulgoun (Arabic), bi (baya), galbiki (foulfoulde), dinyar (Hausa), shike koma, garbo (kapsiki), zekad (mafa ), seked (mofu).
Because of its spherical and black appearance, the edible seed is also called "black plum", "cork wood", "cork grain", "cork seed".
Description
The fruits, first green, ripen from May to November and become black and sweet. The tree that carries it can reach 10 to 15 meters. It is present in Africa and the Indian Ocean.
use
The seed, edible, can provide a sweet drink and has medicinal properties. In Africa, the Gude manufacture a molasses intended to flavor the dishes from the pulp of its fruits.
The young leaves of Vitex doniana can be used as an herbal tea to facilitate digestion but also for the treatment of anemia and dysentery.
Termite-resistant, the wood is used for construction, carpentry (canoes, drums, small objects) and as fuel.
