Description

Commiphora mukul is a flowering plant in the family Burseraceae, mostly found in the Indian subcontinent. It has trifoliate leaves, ovate leaflets and red to pink flowers, with four small petals. It bears small-sized, round fruit, red in color when ripe. It produces a fragrant resin called guggul, obtained from the stem of the tree. It has been widely used as a key component in the ancient Indian Ayurvedic system of medicine, for thousands of years.
