Appearance

Erect annual or short-lived perennial herb, up to 1.6 m tall. The digitate leaves have 5 to 9 linear leaflets and are covered with gland-tipped, sticky hairs. Bracts of inflorescence conspicuous. Petals purplish or pink, with yellow markings. Stamens 10-12. Capsule up to 16 cm, linear.

Angola, Botswana, DRC, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Limpopo and Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Habitat

Widespread in various types of woodland but tends to be more common in lower, drier types, such as Acacia or Mopane woodlands.
