Description:

The name "subacaulis" comes from Latin and means "almost without stem". Aeollanthus subacaulis is a perennial plant that develops from a globular tuberous root. It has green, elongated leaves of an elliptical shape, which are slightly curved inwards, have wavy edges, and are velvety to the touch. During the flowering period it blooms with conical pink-whitish flowers. In its caudex it stores water to survive drought periods. It is a deciduous plant, which means that it loses its leaves during the dormant period, and then regenerates them.

Plant care:

It requires a lot of light all year long while avoiding direct sunlight.

Its natural habitat is in tropical climates, thus it does not withstand temperatures below 10 °C and it does not like too dry heat. It is therefore advisable to keep it away from cold and intense sun.

During warm seasons water regularly but moderately in order to keep the soil moist. In winter it is advisable to completely suspend watering, as the plant enters the vegetative rest.

A substrate composed of soil combined with fine sand is an optimal solution, which makes it well draining and avoids rotting.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
