Royal fern, Osmunda regalis, is a large and spectacular fern, ideal for growing at the pond edge or bog garden. Plants form a distinct clump of tall, arching fronds of fresh green divided leaves. The stems and early leaves of Osmunda regalis 'Purpurascens' are purplish in colour, with the stems remaining purple throughout the season. It makes the perfect planting partner to other large foliage plants such as rodgersia and gunnera.
