This is absolutely stunning with large rich, royal purple velvety trumpet-shaped blooms that have a “star” with a pink throat. Hummingbirds absolutely love them, of course, because of their trumpet design. They are also loved by bees and butterflies. This was a volunteer beneath a tree in my garden beds.

This plant is, of course just like the morning glories or old (because it is one of the heirlooms), but the color of this is so wonderful when allowed to wander through a tree or along a fence-line. The color is so eye-catching, and the plant is all but pest and disease-free.

Wild morning glories have been traced back to ancient China and India, where they were used for medicinal and ceremonial purposes. The Japanese first cultivated the flower for ornamental use in the 9th century.
