One of the prettiest grasses around, Melinus nerviglumis ‘Pink Champagne’ is absolutely spectacular when mass planted in the landscape. Not only that, it is the perfect addition to this summer’s mixed container plantings. The height and color it provides is perfectly paired with Rudbeckia hirta ‘Cherry Brandy’, Salvia nemorosa ‘Bordeau Steel Blue’ and Origanum x hybrid ‘Kirigami’. The soft panicles sway in the wind, adding movement and a touch of whimsy to any area of the garden.

‘Pink Champagne’ is a lush clumping grass with long and narrow blue-green foliage that is topped with colorful plumes that open deep pink to purplish red, and over time fade to a soft amethyst-pink. These lovely grasses having a graceful, semi-arching growth habit, with its peak bloom season from summer into autumn. This really is the perfect plant to enjoy in both your summer and fall gardens.

Melinus nerviglumis ‘Pink Champagne’ grows 18-24 inches tall and wide, and thrives in full sun to light shade. Although it can withstand periodic drought, it really looks its best with moderate water. Plant in well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. The Sunset Climate Zones are 2B-24; H1, H2. All zones as an annual. It is hardy to 20-25°F. If planted in areas with extreme winter cold, treat as an annual.
