Ornamental shrub widely used for hedges, rockery and pots. Used in gardens for edges and as an isolated tree.
Evergreen shrub growing 1-3m tall. Rarely a small tree to 10 m. tall. Attractive elliptic deep purple leaves. The flowers are creamy white, produced in short racemes. The fruit is a red capsule ripening brown and sometimes yellow.
Prefers acid and light soils.
Place the seeds in boiling water at 60º for 5 minutes and immediately after transfer to running water with ice cubes in it. Soak for 24h and then proceed to the sowing maintaining temperatures of 20ºC/25ºC until the germination is completed.
