In certain African cultures it is also used as an emetic and an expectorant. In a study in a Matabele village it was found that Drimia elata was one of the plants most used for medicinal purposes. It has also been found that this bulb is used xtensively in various villages and cultures, which most likely validates the efficacy of this plant as a medicinal plant.
