Comments: This is a geophyte that is widespread over southern and eastern Africa and has many recorded uses in traditional medicine. Among others, it is used to purify blood and to treat cardiovascular, reproductive, urinary, respiratory and digestive issues. In certain African cultures it is also used as an emetic and an expectorant. In a study in a Matabele village it was found that Drimia elata was one of the plants most used for medicinal purposes. It has also been found that this bulb is used xtensively in various villages and cultures, which most likely validates the efficacy of this plant as a medicinal plant.
