Bitter Yam (Dioscorea dumetorum)

Bitter yam(dioscorea)is a large genus of over 600 species with subterranean tubers or rhizomes. They are storage organs and often grown to a considerable size. They are also considered to be among the most primitive of angiosperms, they can be found in Africa,southern Asia and south America. In the eastern part of Nigeria it is known as one of the traditional and cultural food .whenever I go to the village for a visit my grandmother often serves it to me as dinner
