Also called King's Crown, and wooly honeysuckle, this herbaceous perennial has a moderately sprawling growth habit to up to three feet with an even vaster spread. The velvety leaves and stems are grayish green, and in Spring and Fall the stems burst with clusters of bright red slender tubular flowers each 2-3 inches long, resembling a burst of firecrackers that will attract hummingbirds. Plant in full sun for maximum flower power, in well drained soil. This plant is great for a flowering accent shrub in mixed borders, or in a container on a sunny porch or balcony. Hardy in zones 7-11. It dies to the ground in winter here in our zone 8b. These plants are growing in 3-inch pots.
