Born Ariadna Thalia Sodi Miranda on Aug. 26, 1971 in Mexico City, Mexico

One of the most popular figures in Latin music, Thalia has sold tens of millions of records and charted dozens of top 10 singles. Known for her soaring vocals (and ability with different languages including Spanish, English, Tagalog and Portuguese), she is one of the Americas’ most beloved and recognized recording artists.

Born Ariadna Thalia Sodi Miranda in Mexico City in 1971, she began her career performing on children’s television programs and soon joined Timbiriche, a group she met while performing in a production of “Grease.” It was an immediate success and she performed with the band for four albums through 1989 while also acting in a slate of films and shows.

She released her first self-titled solo album in 1990, and it launched several popular singles. But it wasn’t until 1994’s “En Exstasis” that she became a global phenomenon. That album yielded seven singles including the worldwide smash “Piel Morena,” and alongside a bustling telenovela career she became one of Latin America’s most popular entertainers.

In the 2000s she released the crossover hit album “Arrasando” and “Con Banda: Grandes Exitos,” an album of her greatest hits recorded in the vein of the traditional Mexican banda genre. In 2003 she put out her first album in English, also self-titled, and in 2008 played at the White House for President Obama in a program lauding Latino musicians. Her most recent album, “Habitame Siempre” was released in 2012. She earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013.
