Notes
The normally 5–7-flowered clusters (cymules) differentitate S. decumbens from other species of the genus in the Flora Zambesiaca area. The specimens in herbaria are generally of dry and dull brownish colour and this is probably correlated with the distinctive glaucous colour of the living plant mentioned by Tölken (l.c., supra).Tölken (l.c., p. 270) describes hybrids with S. natalensis (Mozambique, M: Matola Bridge, fl. 10.vii.1966, Tölken 2530, 2532 (K)), differing from S. decumbens is either having large tapering spikes or lacking the glaucous colour.A hybrid with S. perennis is also mentioned (p. 272). Mozambique, M: Maputo, fl. & fr. 22.ii.1963, McNae 7 (K), “almost indistinguishable” from S. decumbens in the herbarium, but when above with green not glaucous segments.
