Society Garlic is helpful in just about any sunny, dryish location. It is effective as a ground cover, borders, beds and herb gardens as the foliage is edible and reminiscent of chives. The garlic fragrance emitting from the plant repels deer, making it useful as a companion plant in the garden and containers. Other uses of crushed leaves of the society garlic plant include repelling fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes when rubbed on the skin.

Light: Grows in partial shade, but flowering will be sparse. For best performance, place these society garlic flowers in full sun.

Water: Water regularly through the growing season. Allow the top 3″ inches of soil to dry and then water deeply. During the winter months, reduce or cease watering.

Humidity: Established plants can survive extended droughts, moderate frosts, and light freezes. Remove any foliage that may be damaged by frost.

Temperature: The overwintering temperature should be between 40° – 50° degrees Fahrenheit (4° C – 10° C).

Fertilizer: Fertilize society garlic using a granular general slow-release fertilizer annually in the early springtime.

Soil: Society garlic needs a well-drained soil to prevent root rot. The best is a light, organically rich, well-draining soil. When rhizomes become crowded, lift them and divide them to propagate more plants.

Toxicity: Non-toxic to humans.Pets- garlic, even in small doses, is toxic, in any form. Thankfully most dogs do not get enough to do them permanent or serious damage, but many more get true toxic doses than anyone realizes.
