Plants annual or perennial herbs, with resin canals; stems ringed by the decurrent leaves. Leaves alternate; bases long-decurrent; margins dentate. Inflorescences terminal, of few to many capitula in large, open groups. Capitula disciform; phyllareis in several series, narrow, often rigid, outer phyllaries recurved. Outer flowers many, female, filiform; inner flowers bisexual, 5-lobed; anthers without tails, with apical appendages. Achenes cylindrical, pubescent; pappuses of free, barbellate bristles.
Laggera includes 11-17 species. They are native to Africa, Arabia and Asia. One species, Laggera decurrens, grows in both Somaliland and Somalia.
