Tropical Almond Plant (Terminalia Catappa)
Tropical Almond Plant (Terminalia Catappa)
Also known as Sea Almond, Jamaican Almond, or Indian Almond, among others.
The almond tree boasts broad, glossy green leaves that change into vibrant shades of red and gold before falling, creating a truly stunning visual display. The tree produces small, green drupes that encase a hard-shelled seed. As the fruit ripens, it transitions from green to yellow and then takes on reddish or purplish hues, adorning the plant with a beautiful array of colors. When fully ripe, the thin outer layer becomes edible. Once the fruit dries up, cracking it open reveals a single seed, the almond, which can be enjoyed raw, fried, or prepared in various culinary ways. Despite not being botanically related to the common almond (Prunus dulcis), it tastes remarkably similar.
These trees can be found along the shorelines of most tropical regions. Additionally, they thrive inland, lining public streets and enhancing gardens with their beauty.
