Themeda triandra or Kangaroo grass as it is commonly know is an Australian native grass important to the basalt grass lands.

It is a food source for caterpillars and grassing animals.

First nations peoples use the leaves for weaving ropes and nets and the seeds can be crushed for making cakes.

Kangaroo grass responds well to pruning or can be left to do its thing.

Themeda triandra adapts well to most soils in full sun or part shade. Performs best with some moisture but doesn’t like sitting in wet patches.

The striking copper tones of leaves and seed head make for a feature plant in both rustic and formal gardens.

Kangaroo grass is easily one of our favourite grass and is found commonly through out Nillumbik Shire.
