Richardson residents Neal and Sheila Jeffrey were recently named Baylor University's 2001 Parents of the Year. They were recognized during Baylor's annual Parents Weekend Sept. 22. The couple was honored during After Dark, an annual student talent show, and during the pre-game ceremony of the Baylor - New Mexico football game.
"The Jeffreys are richly deserving of the recognition as Baylor University's Parents of the Year 2001 because of their dedication and steadfast loyalty to the university. We feel that they are truly representative of the family values and Christian principles for which Baylor stands," said Judy Maggard, director of parent programs.
Neal, a 1975 Baylor graduate, was the starting quarterback for the Baylor Bears from 1972-1974 where he led the Bears to the Southwest Conference Champion in 1974. He serves as a board member of the Baylor Lettermen's Association. He is the associate pastor of the Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas.
Shelia, who graduated from Baylor in 1976, works with the special education preschool program for children with disabilities as a teacher/speech therapist in the Richardson Independent School District. She is a member of Baylor Women's Council of Dallas.
The Jeffreys are life members of the Baylor Alumni Association, members of the Baylor Bear Foundation and members of the North Dallas chapter of the Baylor Parents League. They are active in their community and serve on various committees, boards and civic programs.
The Jeffreys are the parents of three children, Natalie and Melissa, who are Baylor students, and James.
