Description
Lianas. Leaves 7-10 x 5-6.5 cm, ovate, orbicular, apex acuminate; petiole to 1 cm. Spikes compound, axillary; flowers polygamo-dioceous, yellow; calyx tube constricted above, lobes 4, 1.5 mm, triangular; petals 1.5 mm, oblong lanceolate, disc lining calyx pilose; stamens 8, in two rows, didymous, filaments 3 mm; ovary 3 mm, 1-celled, style 3 mm, subulate. Fruit 2 x 2 cm, 4-winged, wings chartaceous, red.

Apis Florea nests observed on this plant. The stem is cut and crushed to use as a scrubber to clean vessels which are used store curd. The fibre is used as a rope. Elephants graze on the plant.
