Solanum Lycopersicum Fruit Extract is a natural active ingredient obtained from tomato fruits, rich in carotenoids used in cosmetic formulations. It contains Phytoene and Phytofluene, precursors of carotenoids, which, as they have 3 to 5 sequential double bonds in their chemical structure, become colorless.

Carotenoids accumulate in the skin and protect it from the actions of free radicals, especially the hydroxyl radical. Solanum Lycopersicum fruit extract provides protection against the harmful effects of radiation and reduces lipid peroxidation and free radicals (reactive oxygen species).

Preventing photoaging, Solanum Lycopersicum fruit extract reduces DNA damage and inhibits MMP-1, protecting the integrity of the collagen present in the skin. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory properties, decreasing the release of IL-6, IL-12 (interleukins 6 and 12), and PGE-2 (prostaglandin E2).

Solanum Lycopersicum fruit extract inhibits melanin synthesis through 2 mechanisms of action: blocks the triggers involved in melanin production and adsorbs a part of UV radiation. Tomato extract lightens, brightens, and evens out skin tone. In addition, it has a booster effect when associated with active ingredients such as retinol, Coenzyme Q10, DHA, TiO2, and ZnO.
