Fruit a dry schizocarp, oblong-ovoid, terete to slightly compressed laterally, 3–4 mm long (including stylopodium) x 0.75–1.25 mm wide, greenish-gray, consisting of two one-seeded, indehiscent segments (mericarps) that separate at maturity.
Mericarps ± dimorphic, primary ribs obscure, with slender appressed, white antrorse hairs, ornamentation between primary ridges of two types: covered with numerous straight, slender, granulate to minutely retrorsely barbed pericarp spines of varying lengths (1–1.25 mm), purple-tinged, tipped with a rosette of minute retrorse barbs; or covered with numerous granulate pericarp spines, up to 0.25 mm long. Adaxial side with a deep, longitudinal groove. Oil ducts evident in cross-section of mericarp, numbering 6.
Endosperm rolled inward along groove.
