Schoenoplectus articulatus (L.) Palla, Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 10(4): 299 (1888).

Description

The inflorescences of this sedge are sold in the potpourri trade as “star flowers.” The inflorescence is capitate, with up to 60 or more spikelets, 1-2.5 cm in diameter. Spikelets are cylindrical or oblong, subterete to obscurely angular, 7-15 mm long x 3-4 mm wide.

Nativity and distribution

Schoenoplectus articulatus is native from the Meidterranean region and Africa through India and Sri Lanka to Malesia and Australia.
