Desmodium adscendens
Background of the project
“When our ally became interested in desmodium adscendens, more than fifteen years ago he began by looking for the places where this plant grew naturally and about which there were records.
This led them to travel to various countries in Africa in search of a place to grow crops.
The adventure of the production of this plant that began with a few hundred grams today translates into more than 10 tons per year of leaves and aerial parts in organic production and with For Life certificate. Nowadays the productions are carried out in Vietnam, French Guiana, Mauritius Island and Colombia.”

Phytotherapeutic uses of Desmodium adscendens
Desmodium adscendens grows in the wild mainly in regions of equatorial Africa and Amazonia region.
Its leaves are made up of three oval leaflets of a fairly light green color. They have been used for millennia in the traditional pharmacopoeia of certain areas of Africa, such as Senegal, Ghana, Congo, Liberia and the Ivory Coast, where they have used the leaves and stems of this plant for centuries to treat respiratory and liver conditions.
The therapeutic uses of desmodium where widely knew in Europe In the early 1960s, thanks to the French physician Pierre Tubéry and his wife, Dr. Anne-Marie Tubéry-Crauzes.
From the practice of medicine in Cameroon they returned with an important discovery for universal medicine. And it is there that they were able to collect the testimony of several Europeans who had been cured in a few weeks after suffering serious hepatitis. The plant used by traditional healers, which was neither more nor less than Desmodium adscendens.
Back in Europe they began to investigate this plant. The analysis of the active principles showed a significant concentration of polyphenols (flavonoids : isovitexin, among others and anthocyanins) and saponins.
Numerous clinical trials undertaken in France, England, Canada and in some countries of equatorial Africa confirmed the properties of this plant. Its ability to normalize elevated levels of liver enzymes. The relaxing action on smooth muscle fibers. Its bronchodilator and antihistamine properties have been proven.
The various studies carried out place desmodium adscendens as a great ally.
Both for the mildest liver dysfunctions (need for detoxification, preventive and protective action of liver cells) to the most serious liver disorders, such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, chemotherapy applied to the liver, chronic alcoholism or imbalance of the transaminases, and has been shown to be safe for health at the doses studied.
Immediately, the remedy emerged as the most effective natural treatment in the fight against attacks that the liver suffers, whether viral or chemical, especially as a result of alcohol or drug intoxication.
In addition, practice has shown that this plant, by protecting and repairing liver cells, helps keep the immune system in good condition. For this reason, it is often used as a treatment in the changes of season to better prepare the body for the rigors of winter or the hottest periods.
It is a plant very rich in nutrients and active principles that provide its therapeutic benefits. It should be noted its contribution in indole alkaloids (about 4 mg of tritamin per kg of plant), saponins, fatty acids (linoleic, oleic, palmitic, linolenic …), amino acids in free form (aspartic acid, glutamine, proline …) and minerals ( sulfur, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus …).
And thanks to its richness in nutrients, desmodium adscendens has shown an excellent antioxidant capacity that helps fight excess free radicals. Which are responsible for some of the most common chronic and degenerative diseases today. More recent studies even suggest that the active principles of this plant could have antimicrobial effects.
