Single-stemmed tree aloe from southern Africa with very pretty, bright flowers. The stem may grow from about 6 to nearly 20 feet tall. Leaves are spreading to recurved and green to reddish or brownish, with a few spines on the lower surface and sharp, deltoid, reddish brown teeth. Inflorescences are branched (up to 6 times) and rebranched, with very densely flowered cylindrical racemes and bright red or reddish orange flowers. Pedicels are very short, so flowers are nearly sessile. Stamens and style are far exserted. This species is found in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, and South Africa. The geographically disjunct var. breviflora from the border between Mozambique and Malawi has wider leaves and shorter flowers.
