For Carl Gustav Dahlberg (1721–1781), Swedish mercenary lieutenant-colonel, then plantation owner when he married a Dutch widow (1746) through whom he obtained this resource, as well as supreme court judge in Surinam. From here he compiled zoological and botanical collections, some for Linnaeus. Named also for his brother Nils Ericsson Dahlberg (1736–1820), botanist and physician, student of Linnaeus in 1755, personal physician of Gustav III from 1768, and twice president of the Swedish Academy of Sciences.
