Etymology of Anthospermum:
Gk. anthos = flower; spermum = seed. Although the flowers are usually dioecious – unisexual, male and female – ‘male’ flowers sometimes have ovaries capable of ripening seed.
Etymology of galioides:
From the Latin ‘gali’ / ‘galium’ meaning ‘bed-straw’; and the Greek ‘oides’ / ‘oides’ meaning ‘in the form of’.

Rounded or sprawling subshrub to 50 cm. Leaves decussate, linear to lanceolate, often recurved above, margins ciliate. Flowers in axillary clusters, yellowish. July--Jan. Flats and slopes, NW, SW, AP, KM, LB, SE (Bokkeveld Escarpment to E Cape).
