These seeds were collected from Lablab purpureus, also known as Hyacinth Bean. This annual vine likes to live in full sun to partial shade where they can grow up to about 20 feet long. Its fragrant purple, pink, white, and rose colored flowers are on display from the middle of the summer until the middle of the fall where they attract a wide variety of birds, bees and butterflies. Hummingbirds love this plant. All parts of this plant are edible. Mature seed pods and leaves can be cooked and eaten as vegetables. Tofu and Tempeh can be made from the beans. Seed sprouts can be eaten raw and young pods and young premature seeds can be eaten raw or cooked. The leaves can also be dried and then cooked later as a vegetable similar to spinach. The flowers can be eaten cooked or raw and the root can also be cooked and eaten. This vine is a tender perennial in USDA Hardiness Zones 10 to 12, but is grown as an annual in all USDA Hardiness Zones.
