This member of the Apocynaceae family was given this name by Otto Stapf in 1907. It is found in Eswatini, Mozambique and northern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to one meter in diameter, the entire plant from 20 to 70 centimetres in height. The flowers are crimson, deep mauve over pink to white.

The species is named after Swaziland; the old name for Eswatini, where it also is found.

Where G.D. Rowley thought it was a subspecies of Adenium boehmianum, the expert Mark Dimmitt states vehemently that they are clear-cut distinct species. A. boehmianum has a wider and unfolded leaf, a smaller and white flower, the caudex is differently coloured even sometimes showing some sort of bark (it's hardly succulent), has a treelet form and occurs throughout the opposite side of the south of Africa.
