Description

Rhizome robust, erect. Fronds to 180 cm long. Stipe 15–30 cm long, 70 cm or more from base of stipe to first normal pinna. Lamina ovate, to 150 cm long. Pinnae to more than 40 pairs, bright green; reduced basal pinnae c. 6 pairs, gradually decrescent downwards; uppermost reduced pinnae c. 4 cm long with widened base; lowermost normal pinnae somewhat narrowed towards base; largest pinnae c. 25 cm long, 2.5–3 cm wide (fronds often fertile when much smaller), lobed c. half-way to costae; lobes slightly falcate, with small projections at vein ends; veins to 14 pairs, 1 pair anastomosing and 1 pair passing to the sinus membrane; lower surface entirely glabrous, pustular when dry. Sori inframedial; basal sori not divergent; indusium glabrous; sporangia lacking capitate hairs near the annulus

Distribution

Wet Tropics of NE QLD between Daintree and Herbert River. Also Eungella region and between Maleny and Whian Whian in SE QLD. Also found in Malesia.

Habit and habitat

Terrestrial in low- to upper- montane mesic vine forest, often on slopes and creek banks under an broken canopy.
