Solenangis aphylla, flowering today
A leafless orchid from Madagascar. Only the second time I've flowered this species. Flowers are about .25in/.65cm tall.

This one is an Angraecoid. I know it doesn't really look like it, but it is!
For anyone who hasn't figured it out already - the species name, aphylla, means "no leaves". Yes, it is a leafless orchid!

Amazing orchid! I am always in awe of anybody who can bloom leafless orchids....the roots are robust and pencil thick....good growing!

Thanks, everyone. I wish I knew more about it. I'd like to try pollinating it, but I have a lot of ignorance to overcome. I don't know if it's self-compatible, I'll have to spend some time with a magnifying glass or microscope investigating the flower, and - since this is a smaller inflorescence than the other plant had last year - I'm not sure if the plant is robust enough to carry a pod or if I should grow it on a year and try when the other plant flowers instead. Looks healthy, but with only two data points I don't have a very broad picture.
