Hi Hilary,
This is a beautiful Australian tree and we have one in our backyard in Melbourne - unfortunately it had been bought as a "small to medium" tree and eventually reached up over the two-storey building! Paradoxically in summer it would shed its leaves and in winter fully shaded our kitchen! The fallen flowers make a delightful carpet - until they get wet when they become a soggy, sticky mess which would get trodden into the carpet if we weren't diligent enough at cleaning our footwear before going inside.
Our neighbour is scared that it's undermining the wall of the units and it will probably be coming down soon :'(
cheers
