Description:
Monoecious, slender, diffuse herb; branchlets grooved, reddish; indumentum of curly hairs. Leaves decussate, ovate, to 4.5 x 2.5 cm, membranous, base obtuse, margin coarsely crenate, apex acuminate, hispid above and on nerves below; cystoliths punctiform; petiole to 2 cm; stipule linear-lanceolate, 3 mm. Flower(s) enveloped in axillary, scabrid, campanulate, involucres 3 mm wide. Staminate: Flowers 3 to the involucre. Perianth tubular-clavate, 3-5-fid. Stamen 1. Pistillode 0. Pistillate: Flower solitary, in the lower axils. Perianth 0. Ovary woolly, 1-celled; ovule 1, erect; stigma hispid. Achene ovoid, compressed, woolly; seed 1.
