Euphorbia antso - Much branched shrub to<br />

Delonix pumila - The dwarf Flamboy ant<br />

Adansonia suarezensis - Suarez Baobab.<br />

Endangered in its natural habitat. Up to 25m<br />

tall <strong>with</strong> a trunk diameter of 2m. Flat topped<br />

crow <strong>with</strong> almost horisontal branches. Palmate<br />

(handshaped) leav es and white f lowers.<br />

Adansonia rubrostipa - (Adansonia f ony ).<br />

The smallest baobab of Madacascar (about 4 -<br />

Pachypodium decaryi - Fragrant, white<br />

leav es are long, narrow and green <strong>with</strong> a lighter<br />

green v ein running the length of the leaf . The<br />

leav es f orm around the growth tips of the<br />

trunk. The trunk is a smooth silv ery brown and<br />

the plant may reach 8-10m <strong>with</strong> some time.<br />

Flowers are large white <strong>with</strong> a y ellow center<br />

and perf umed.<br />

Pachypodium densiflorum - A succulent<br />

shrublet <strong>with</strong> a swollen stem that can attain a<br />

diameter of up to 2 m and a height of ± 0.7 m.<br />

It carries many short and upright, spiny<br />

branches. Flowers are y ellow or sometimes<br />

tinted deep y ellow and orange and appear in<br />

springtime. Plants grow in southern, central<br />

and northern Madagascar on granite outcrops<br />

at altitudes of ± 1 500 m.<br />

Pachypodium cactipes - A squat pachy caul<br />

<strong>with</strong> a smooth trunk that turns silv er gray as it<br />

ages. Af ter the plant f irst f lowers, it begins to<br />

branch until it f orms a head of short, thick,<br />

tapered branches <strong>with</strong> groups of leav es<br />

sprouting f rom the tips of the<br />

Phyllartron comorense - Tree of up to 20m,<br />

ev ergreen, can <strong>with</strong>stand dry periods. Flowers<br />

pink, sometimes whitish, 3cm diameter in<br />

Perichlaena richardii - Climbing shrub.<br />

Chadsia grevei - Elegant species endemic to<br />

subarid thickets and woodlands of Toliara,<br />

Madagascar between 0-500m elev ation. Looks<br />

v ery delicate but is actually quite drought<br />

Fernandoa madagascariensis - This small<br />

Gardenia subacaulis - Originates f rom<br />

Calodendrum capense - Cape Chestnut. One<br />

of the most beautif ull f lowering trees of south<br />

Af rica. It grows to be up to 20m in height. It is<br />

a f ast grower and produces masses of f lowers<br />

deep pink. Flowers mostly in summer. Can<br />

handle some cold weather.<br />

This beautif ul mangrov e tree is easily<br />

Creepers


Mucuna sloanei - Horse-ey e bean. Wide<br />

spread in tropical Af rica f rom Sierra Leone to<br />

DRC and Angola. A f ast growing creeper which<br />

can reach 5-6m in height. These <strong>plants</strong> f lower<br />

most months of the y ear <strong>with</strong> a short rest in<br />

winter. The f lowers are y ellow-green.<br />

Ipomoea horsfalliae - Cardinal Creeper. This<br />

exceptionl creeper has deep wine coloured<br />
