Description

Brown Knapweed grows in dry meadows and open woodland. A much branched plant. The leaves grow to just below the base of the flower. The bracts, in many layers, are brown, hence the name ‘Brown Knapweed’.

Flowers

The flowers are in clusters, flat topped, the longer outer ray florets dividing into segments.

Leaves

Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Oblong, wider in the middle, pointed, serrated or not, with leaves placed alternately on either side of the stem.

Fruits Seeds

Achene: a cluster of small, 1-seeded fruit, elliptic, slightly flattened, light-brown.

Medical

Root: in the form of a tonic to treat digestive problems.
