Description

Deciduous tree or shrub, spectacular when the winged nuts turn red.

Flowers

The flowers are greenish-yellow in irregular clusters, 2-3 cm long, erect at first, pendulous with maturity.

Leaves

Palmate leaf has lobes radiating from a base point. Shiny, dark green, with 3 lobes, the midrib of the lobes radiate from a base point, long stalked. The leaves are 3-6 cm long and ooze a clear sap when crushed. Leaves turn red in autumn.

Fruits Seeds

Samaras: a cluster of almost parallel winged nuts.
