Pedilanthus macrocarpus

Pedilanthus macrocarpus, commonly known as Desert Pencil Bush. A Native American member of the Euphorbia family from Baja and northern Mexico, there is no other succulent plant like this with such pretty, multiple, straight up vertical lines and it’s as impressive in containers as it is in the southwest or succulent garden. The vertical, pale lime green stems are about the diameter of a fat pencil and grow to 3ft. tall, branching freely from the base or slightly under-ground. If It’s unique and striking form were not enough, the added bonus of colorful flowers shaped like tiny little red slippers dance on the tips of the stems during summer (hence its other common name- Lady Slippers). Full sun; and really appreciates some extra water and fertilizer in the warm growing season, especially in hot, inland, desert climates.
