A cultivar that draws the attention because of its decorative, deeply dissected leaf. It attains a height of 10 - 15 m. When maturing it gets a dense, spreading crown. The smooth bark is grey. The dark-green leaves are irregularly deeply dissected to lobed. Some leaves are very narrow and have a few small side-lobes, they become ± 10 cm long and ± 5 cm wide. The autumn colour is warm golden yellow and the inflorescence is inconspicuous. In autumn the 1 - 2 cm long nuts follow, it bears profusely only at a later age. 'Asplenifolia' is a solitary and prefers not too wet soil, well-drained and high in humus content. Moderately wind resistant. Winter hardiness zone: 5b
