Acer platanoides 'Summershade' Acer platanoides 'Summershade'

An American selection with a vigorous growth. It is a healthy tree with a strong main branch. The oval to pyramidal crown can be slightly irregularly shaped. The tree can reach a height of 15 - 20 m. In spring the leaf has a bronze colour, later it turns light green. It has a leathery feel. The green-yellow flowers emerge before the leaves unfold. In full bloom the tree is a real harbinger of spring. The wings of the nutlets are in a wide angle in relation to each other. Strong root system with many fibrous roots. 'Summershade' is a perfect avenue tree and heat tolerant. It was selected from a batch of seedlings of A. p. 'Erectum'. Intolerant to wet and peaty soils, but requires little else. Not sea wind resistant.
