This Arrowhead Plant may look like a mounding houseplant, but don't be fooled. It can send out stems that grow 3 to 6 feet long.

CloseAt first glance, the Arrowhead Plant seems to have a lovely mounding habit, with mottled green and white leaves forming a rounded structure. Once it gets settled in though, runners will emerge, growing anywhere from three to six feet long. These vining stems can be left to trail or they can be trained up moss poles or other supports. As is true of most tropicals, the Arrowhead Plant prefers a well-lit room with no direct sun, although it may tolerate lower lighting. This variety is less picky about humidity, but it doesn't like soggy roots, so water thoroughly only when the surface soil is dry, and don't let it sit in standing water. As tempting as those long stems may be to pets and little humans, please keep them out of reach, as the Arrowhead Plant will cause gastric distress if ingested.
