Epazote Seeds - Dysphania Ambrosioides - Aromatic & Perennial

Quantity: 100+ Seeds

Epazote is a unique and amazing herb that's native from Mexico down to South America. It's a staple in Mexican cuisine, and is often used to flavour bean dishes, as it reduces flatulence and adds a bright flavour and aroma. Epazote is also used as a tea to regulate digestion, expel worms, and relieve stomach cramps. The plants are annuals, or can even be short lived perennials in zone 7 and higher. The flavour and aroma is really strong, and has been described to be like so many different things; this being said, it tastes totally unique, and it has to be tried to understand. Some people describe the flavour to be like camphor, mint, citrus, cilantro, licorice, anise, fennel, or even laundry detergent.

All seeds are organic and open pollinated.

  • Growing Instructions

It's best to start Epazote seeds 4-6 weeks before the last frost. It's good to sow them in a sterile growing medium; most available seed starting soils should do the job nicely; we use sunshine mix (peat moss and perlite). The soil should be made moist, but not damp. Sow the seeds on the soil surface. Store in a warm area until tiny sprouts emerge from the soil. A heat mat aids in this step, but is not necessary. Once germinated, and the first two true leaves have formed, it's time to pot up to a larger container that contains a good quality potting soil. Transplant to their final location when the nighttime temperatures are consistently 8°C or higher, which is around mid-may for us at the farm. Epazote does best when grown in full sun.
