Problem statement Several health problems can affect birds but chicken lice infections play a major role (Mishra et al., 2017) There is loss of weight, inferior laying capacity, and skin lesions that may become the site for the secondary infections (Sonnshine et al., 2002) There’s build up of toxic substances in environment and more insecticide resistance (Pavela et al 2014 P. dodecandra is used as an insecticide against chicken lice in Mid- western Uganda yet there is scanty information on the subject.

Objectives of the study To assess the indigenous knowledge on the insecticidal properties of Phytolacca dodecandra in the control of common chicken lice in Kabwoya sub-county in Kikuube district. To document the indigenous methods used in application of Phytolacca dodecandra in the control of common chicken lice in Kabwoya Sub county. To determine the repellant effectiveness of Phytolacca dodecandra leaves under different preparations against common chicken lice.
